Okay, I got the whole Halo: Legends series on DVD this summer and finally decided to review the series episode by episode on the site.
So, now I am going to review the first episode in the series Origins (Part 1). This episode was okay. It went over the first part history of of Halo. Which happened to included the Forerunner/Flood War and the creation and activation of the Halos (should have put a spoiler alert). When the series was made this was pretty much uncovered ground, but with the Forerunner Trilogy out it now kinda of overkill. Over all this episode was good and I recommend you watch it.
Okay. Two weeks ago I finally got Halo 4 and two days ago I finished the campaign on Normal. Overall the game is good. The story is great and makes all the recent book tie-in worth your while. Also Spartan Ops is no replacement for Firefight but the story is a great addition to the game's. Also the multi-player is quite fun.
The main story line is about good ol' Spartan 117 encountering a Forerunner planet called Requiem. After he escapes the Dawn before it is sucked into the planet's gravity well. Then after fighting more Covenant and meeting the new Forerunner neon Tron robots, John awakes the Diadact (remember him from the Forerunner saga).
The Diadact then takes over the minds of the the Covenant and the neon robots to still be your enemy but without then fighting each other.
Also by this time another UNSC ship named the Infinity show up and crashes unto the planet (despite MC's attempts to stop it).
A level of chaos ensures as MC helps the survivors while the ship gets airborne again. The Diadact at this time is trying to escape Requiem and MC wants to stop him but the captain of the Infinity, Del Rio, order ls Chief to stand down.
Like you can guess MC does not and the captain orders him to be arrested. Of course chief has a few favors that people repay to him and he is soon on his way to stop the Diadact.
After a short skirmish to take out a small communications relay MC hops on the Diadact's ship and head to the third Halo to stop the Diadact.
After everyone but Chief dies on the space station that is floating around the Halo and the Diadact runs away to Earth with his ancient super-weapon, the Composer, Chief goes on a last ditch effort to stop him.
This ends with success but not without sacrifice. Let's just say someone we all know from the series dies. Afterwards Chief (one less person or being it could be) mourns the the lost of the character and everything sets up for Halo 5 nicely.
SPOILERS END HERE
As you can see the campaign is a long winding story, that sometimes appears to be a more of a collection of random stuff MC is throw into right after he wakes up from Halo 3 than an a narrative.
Is not bad way the story is told. It has a beginning, middle, and end. It is just the story seems to take to long for the story to get moving.
Either way unto the multiplayer experience. The multi-player has many modes that are fun to play but one big thing is missing for me, Firefight.
While 343 put Spartan Ops in instead of Firefight it is still not Firefight. While I love Spartan Ops it's still not the same as killing waves of Covenant for the sake of having fun.
Again Spartan Ops is similar but with the story and neon robots. Those two factors causes it to seem different from Firefight. It is just not a good replacement.
Personally I love the idea of having your Spartan and letting him have his own story. But the missions can get receptive when you spend 30 minutes fighting neon robots. Anyways unto the multiplayer now called WarGames.
Also the multi-player has a "story". The story for the most part is that you are playing your Spartan from Spartan Ops. Your spartan is pretty much going into a training room and to train.
WarGames is fun and is a pretty good successor to Halo: Reach's multiplayer. While some may complain about the loadouts and ordinance drops I think it is just the next evolution of Halo's multiplayer.
Overall Halo 4 is a game worth buying and is pretty fun. Come back soon for our reviews on the Halo 4 map packs.
